For My Family

I try to say goodbye
And only see my fear
Of life lived on my own again
Without my loved ones near.

But then the Lord whispers his name
Over my welling tears,
Reminding me of where I place
My trust, and all comes clear.

My family had me by their sides
For less than twenty years,
And now I must depart the nest
Without their comfort here,

But I am in God’s loving hands,
Much stronger than their own,
The one who named the stars above
Won’t leave me lost, alone.

For the family I now have to leave
Taught me with every day
That even when we stumble, God
Will never turn away.

So though I must leave for a time,
My whole life’s trail to make,
Know I miss you, and I love you, and
I’ll be home for Christmas break.
